Water and drinks
Your body needs water or other fluids to work properly and to avoid dehydration…
Water makes up about two-thirds of the weight of a healthy body… We also need water so that our blood can carry nutrients around the body and get rid of waste…
To stay healthy, it’s important to replace the fluid we lose when we breathe, sweat or urinate…
The European Food Safety Authority recommends that women should drink about 1.6 litres of fluid and men should drink about 2.0 litres of fluid per day… depending on a range of factors, including their size, the temperature and how active they are…
All drinks count, including hot drinks such as tea and coffee, but water, milk and fruit juices are the healthiest. It is best to avoid alcoholic drinks. Try to avoid sugary, soft and fizzy drinks that can be high in added sugars…
When our bodies don’t have enough water, we are said to be dehydrated… One of the first signs of dehydration is feeling thirsty… dark urine and not passing much urine when you go to the toilet, headaches, lack of energy, feeling lightheaded…
Healing power of water
Water is essential to our life. We can go for weeks without food but not without water. Water is so important and basic to life. The cells in our bodies are full of water.
Drink water for a healthy body and mind, on the other hand if you do not drink enough your body will start to move water from less essential systems to more vital systems. Question is what systems in your body would you classify as less vital? 75% of your brain tissue consists of water and your brain runs 7 days per week and 24 hours per day. Your brain needs water more than any other organ since your whole system depends on a functioning brain. Up to 60 % of the human body is water, blood is 82 % water, and the lungs are nearly 90 %t water. Water is of major importance to all living things; in some organisms, up to 90 percent of their body weight comes from water.
Most people are constantly dehydrated causing damage to their health. Even before we notice the first feelings of thirst, research shows that water loss can affect the body’s normal functioning, reducing concentration and the ability of our immune system to fight disease. Dehydration also makes us lethargic and more susceptible to stress.
For the body and mind to function well, we need to drink at least three and half-pints every day – more if the atmosphere is dry or the weather is hot. Without it we are in danger of toxic overload. The liver and kidneys all need plenty of water to help them process and excrete everyday poisons – alcohol, caffeine, junk food, additives or drugs. The digestive system, too, cannot function properly without it.
Headaches, constipation, arthritis, irritable bowel syndrome and even lowered immune function can all be linked to dehydration. If you are suffering from this, your skin too will look dull and dry out, making it more prone to lines and wrinkles. To counteract all these problems you really have to drink water rather than any other liquid because, most other drinks like caffeine actually dehydrate the body.
Water is nature’s most effective medicine because it is essential for cleaning and removing toxins from the body. When your body does not get enough water it cannot remove toxins and problems start occurring.
It is recommended that you drink at least 6 to 8 glasses of water each day. If you are in warmer climates you might need to drink more. Water is known to have an effect on diverse diseases like: angina, arthritis, asthma, back problems, depression, diabetes, excess weight, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, migraine, MS, etc.
If you are trained in reiki, you can use reiki energy to enhance the health benefits of your drinking water by holding your hands around your glass of water and let reiki energy flow into it before drinking it, adding the symbols if you are trained to second level.
