Shibashi

Shibashi – 18 Taiji Qigong sets: in 1979 Master Lin Housheng created his first set of eighteen movements. The second set was created in 1988. The third set was created in 1990 and the other sets were later created after that.

The name ‘Shibashi’ means 18 movements in Chinese, Shibashi is ‘not’ tai chi, it’s qigong exercises that have a few of their movements inspired by tai chi moves.

*Mrs Men Bao, the founder of our tai chi & qigong club, taught her teachers and students to do equal number of moves with one leg forward in the moves 11, 12 & 13. So if following the 2 video links below for Shibashi 1, repeat number 11 (3 times on each side), number 12 (6 times on each side) and number 13 (4 times on each side).

In some South-East Asian countries such as Malaysia and Indonesia, Lin Housheng’s Shibashi sets are promoted as National Health Exercise.

Lin Housheng created 7 sets, there isn’t a set number 4 as that number is not a positive number in the East, related to death, so numbers are 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, & 8. (Number 8, the last set is more challenging than other sets, it is composed of moves from all the previous sets, two per move so 36 all together).
